Australian contractors Leighton have been awarded a $656 million contract by MTR to carry out work at a station along Hong Kong’s new Shatin to Central Link.

The Hung Hom Station and Stabling Sidings Contract is the seventh contract in the past three years to be awarded to Leighton Asia by the MTR Corporation.

The scope of work for Contract 1112 includes significant modification works to the station, platforms, tunnel box and approach tunnels.

Managing director of Leighton Asia, India and Offshore, Ian Edwards, said: “We are delighted to win yet another landmark project with a client with whom we share a long and successful relationship.

“Leighton Asia, India and Offshore has a solid track record in rail infrastructure in Hong Kong over some three decades with a number of significant projects, including the terminus of Guangzhou – Shenzhen – Hong Kong Express Rail Link and South Island Line (East).

“Our significant rail and tunnelling experience makes us well suited to successfully deliver the major infrastructure projects in the region and we are pleased to be able to work with MTR again.”

Construction works are scheduled to begin immediately, with an expected completion date in 2018.
