Union Pacific (UP) steam locomotive 844 is nearing the end of a U.S. tour to mark 150 years since President Abraham Lincoln created Union Pacific by signing the Pacific Railway Act.
Built in 1944, the legendary steam locomotive was the last to be delivered to Union Pacific.
No. 844 will arrive at Houston’s Amtrak station on October 26 and round off the UP 150 Express tour with a two-day community celebration.
Joe Adams, Union Pacific vice president, public affairs – southern region, said: “Our 150th anniversary is a milestone that provides us with the opportunity to thank our communities for supporting Union Pacific.
“We are happy to celebrate our past and proud to commemorate more than a century and a half of progress with the city of Houston.”
