Krakow City Transport (MPK) has begun testing its new energy-efficient Solaris trams.
A three-month trial phase is now underway on the city’s line 1.
Solaris has said the low-floor Tramino light rail vehicles will be the first in Poland to use regenerative braking, cutting the amount of energy it draws from the network by 20 to 30 per cent.
The 32-metre articulated trams are step free and consist of five carriages.
Around half of Krakow’s trams are now low-floor. This figure will increase when 36 new vehicles start to arrive from PESA Bydgoszcz later this year.
