A pedestrian footbridge like no other has opened in Den Bosch, linking the Dutch city’s historic centre with its contemporary present.
The 250-metre bridge doubles up as an urban garden, with greenery integrated into the sheets of weathering steel that make up the structure.
The bridge, which is designed to be in keeping with the city’s medieval heritage, has a minimum 100-year lifespan.
Solar panels will collect and store energy in the summer to power an under floor heating system in the winter. De-icing salts would have killed the plants and trees along the bridge and so an innovative solution had to be found.

I like the inclusion of bike ramps in the centre of the stairway. Very Dutch!
Yes, you won’t see those on the garden bridge proposed for London! In fact, no bikes at all!
