Polish infrastructure manager PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe has signed a contract worth around 1.8 million zł to carry out a feasibility study into proposed improvements to rail infrastructure surrounding the Port of Gdansk.
The study, which will consider the most effective options for modernisation of the stations which serve the sea port, follows an earlier announcement of plans to upgrade line 226 which connects the port with Gdansk city centre.
Line 226 is to benefit from a modern traffic control system which will allow freight trains to reach speeds of 100 km/h and increase the number of daily services from 60 to 360.
The projects are part financed by the European Union Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment 2007-2013 funding agreement.
The feasibility study will be completed in September 2015.
