European wagon hire and rail logistics company VTG Aktiengesellschaft has agreed to merge some of its activities with global firm Kuehne + Nagel.

The agreement, which is subject to approval by antitrust authorities, would significantly extend the reach of VTG and allow Kuehne + Nagel to offer a greater number of services across its global logistics network.

If approved, the new joint venture will open for business of January 1, 2014.

“This joint venture under the umbrella of VTG Rail Logistics is creating a rail logistics company with a Europe-wide network of locations and completely new possibilities for transport concepts that show the way to the future,” said Heiko Fischer, chief executive of VTG Aktiengesellschaft.
