Elron completes replacement of passenger train fleet

Listen to this article

Estonian rail operator Elron has received the final new FLIRT train from Stadler, completing a full replacement of the operator’s passenger fleet.

Delivery and leasing contracts were signed in 2010 for 18 electric-multiple units (EMU) and 20 diesel-multiple units (DMU) between Elron and Stadler Rail – an order which has been described as the largest passenger train fleet acquisition in the history of independent Estonia.

The first of the new electric fleet entered service in July 2013, with the first DMU following it into operation in January this year.

The renewal has brought Elron’s average fleet age close to zero.
