Austria’s Swietelsky Baugesellschaft has been awarded a €50 million loan to support its research into track maintenance technology.

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is supporting the project which seeks to develop faster and cheaper systems for renewing and maintaining rail infrastructure.

Specifically, the loan will allow the company to build two prototype rail maintenance vehicles.

Research will be conducted at Swietelsky’s site in Fischamend near Vienna.
