Train operator East Coast is cutting up to 45% off weekend daily parking rates at seven of its managed stations.
The new rates are being trialled from Saturday 10 September until the end of the year to encourage more weekend rail travellers to make use of East Coast’s station car parks.
All East Coast car parks have CCTV coverage and provide convenient and secure access to train services – ideal for those planning a day trip to London for shopping or sightseeing, using the extra services in East Coast’s recently improved timetable.
The discounted day parking rates will join those already in place at other East Coast-managed stations, which have proved popular with weekend rail users.
East Coast Commercial and Customer Service Director Peter Williams said:
“We are trialling reduced parking rates at weekends, when we have more capacity available. We hope to encourage more motorists to give our trains a try.
“As well as convenient and secure parking at a great value price, we can offer stress-free long-distance travel which also competes well on price with driving or flying.
“Already we are seeing more and more people switch from the car or the ‘plane to the train – we think these new car park rates will encourage more to join them.”
East Coast is also cutting weekday (Monday to Friday) parking rates at Wakefield Westgate’s recently-opened car park from £12.50 to just £7 a day.
This change is on a trial basis until the end of the year and offers motorists across West Yorkshire a great opportunity to connect with East Coast’s 64 weekday trains between Wakefield and London.
With average journey times from Wakefield to the capital of just 2 hours 4 minutes, the train offers a speedy and comfortable alternative to a much longer and more stressful drive along the congested M1 motorway.
The multi-storey car park adjacent to Wakefield Westgate station offers 900 spaces – making it an easy option for day trippers to park and ride by East Coast train. It also features a secure pay-on-foot system and CCTV throughout.
