Czech Railways orders long-distance passenger EMUs

Czech Railways has taken steps to upgrade its long-distance fleet with the purchase of 14 new electric trainsets from Škoda.

The new RegioPanter electric multiple units (EMU) will be built between 2015 and 2016, Czech Railways has said, and will be deployed on domestic long-distance routes.

The order has been valued at CZK 2.6 billion (€94 million).

Ordinarily deployed on regional routes, the new trainsets will have a different seating configuration and an electronic reservation system.

Instead of a single double-leaf sliding door directly into the carriages, the units will also have separate entrance areas at either end of the car with plug doors.
