Metrolinx has appointed Alstom to supply its computer-based train control system for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area.

The $113 million contract, which will be delivered by the end of 2018, will integrate the entire 450-kilometre network into a single control centre.

The computer-based system will optimise train movements and manage maintenance activities.

Alstom was chosen by Metrolinx in 2014 to install a new signalling system for the Union Station Rail Corridor.
