The gateway to Brisbane’s airport corridor is being improved with a $10 million upgrade of Eagle Junction train station and a new Doomben line train.
Transport Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk said the station upgrade included a new station building, ticket office, reconfigured car park and a new escalator and lift linking the car park to the station — all on the Junction Road side of the station.
“Eagle Junction is the first train station many visitors to Brisbane encounter so we need to make sure it leaves tourists with a good impression of the city,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
“Matrix Projects (Qld) Pty Ltd will start work on this exciting upgrade later this month.
“This project is funded by the State Government and will make catching public transport easier for both the growing number of Airtrain and regular commuters by mid next year.”
Ms Palaszczuk said Queensland Rail and Translink would ensure Eagle Junction works caused as little inconvenience as possible.
“There will be changes during building, including changes to the Junction Road car park and entry/exit points. Information will be available on the TransLink website.”
Ms Palaszczuk said the new evening Doomben line train would run from Monday night to spread the hours of trains on the Doomben line.
The train departs Central at 7.05pm and arrives at Doomben at 7.26pm.
“Previously, the final train on the Doomben line departed Central at 6pm, so we’re adding 450 new seats to the line each weekday evening that will make travel easy for customers in this area,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
“The train will stop all stations from Central to Eagle Junction, then Clayfield, Hendra and Ascot stations before terminating at Doomben station. At present, the train comes from Cleveland and terminates at Bowen Hills.
“This evening train benefits customers who have asked for additional services on the Doomben line and will also be welcome for the increasing number of people starting to call the Hamilton Northshore area home.
“Customers will still be able to catch route 303 or 304 buses that depart Eagle Junction train station regularly throughout the day, stopping at the train stations to Doomben and return.
“Several buses on these routes also service Eagle Farm (Gateway) TAFE, along Kingsford Smith Drive to Bunour and Meeandah, as well as Pinkenba and Myrtletown.”
The new train will run as a trial until June 2012 to determine if there is continued passenger demand for the new service.
