A new £1,000-a-night luxury train service, complete with onboard gym and spa, has been launched in Delhi.

The Royal Rajasthan on Wheels (RROW) service boasts 14 coaches, ranging from £1,000 per night super deluxe saloons to cheaper deluxe suites.

Each deluxe saloon has a different colour theme based on a precious stone, including ruby, pearl and sapphire.

Indian Railways in association with Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation Ltd (RTDC) launched the new train service on October 8, from New Delhi’s Safdarjang Railway Station to Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

The Royal Rajasthan on Wheels (RROW) service will make the seven-day journey from Delhi, through Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, every Sunday between October 2012 and March 2013.

The train will stop at Jodhpur, Udaipur, Bharatpur, Chittorgarh, Sawai Madhopur, Jaipur, Khajuraho, Agra and Varanasi before returning to New Delhi on the eighth day of its itinerary.

Points of interest along the route include Chittaurgarh Fort, Jag Niwas and the Taj Mahal.
