The appointment by Network Rail of a Freight Director has been welcomed by the Freight Transport Association (FTA) as further reassurance that rail freight’s interests will be protected.
Christopher Snelling, FTA’s Head of Rail Freight and Global Supply Chain Policy, said:
“Tim Robinson’s appointment as Network Rail’s Freight Director is good news.
“We worked with Tim when he was at GB Railfreight and know that his understanding of rail freight’s needs is second to none.
“We look forward to meeting with Tim to discuss how rail freight can drive up efficiency, encourage new entrants and fulfil its ambition of getting more lorries off the roads.
“Network Rail’s commitment to retaining a national structure for freight is also a reassuring sign that FTA’s pre-McNulty concerns have been listened to.”
