New health & safety regulations to soothe rail passengers

Listen to this article

The rail industry may soon have to abide by new health and safety regulations in order to protect their passengers. It is thought that all train operating companies in the UK will soon have to carry out train refurbishment to ensure the safety and comfort of those on board.

Key parts of this proposed act include:

  • Padded interior doors to lessen any injury a commuter may face once aboard the train.
  • Pillows placed under every seat for the use of tired commuters. These would be lavender scented to calm irate passengers should they need a snooze.
  • Aeroplane-like headphone attachments featuring a soothing radio station.
  • Blankets (colour coded to the train operator) should also be made available by train staff.
  • Passengers would also be allowed to take their shoes off as they enter the train and place them in a secure hold, before changing into their slippers.

It is thought that these new regulations could ease the hassle of the commute for many and provide a relaxing atmosphere.

A survey was conducted among frequent passengers with one train operator, with 85% saying that they would welcome these new incentives.

Dr Hans Snoozel who is the head of the campaign for ‘Calmer Commuters’ said he was delighted that his ideas had been welcomed by health and safety bodies.
