The latest extension to Dublin’s tramway system, LUAS, opened on 2 July 2011.

Light rail campaign TramForward has welcomed this extension to one of the most successful modern tramways.

Luas Citywest is the new 4.2km extension of the Luas Red Line from Belgard to Saggart in West County Dublin. It includes 5 new stops located at:

  • Fettercairn
  • Cheeverstown
  • Citywest Campus
  • Fortunestown and
  • Saggart

This is the third extension to the LUAS system.

The first, linking the city centre to the Dockland development at The Point, opened in 2009, and the second, an extension of the Green Line to Cherrywood and Bride’s Glen in the south of Dublin, opened last year.
