ScotRail announces extra seats for bumper concert week

Listen to this article

ScotRail is on track to carry tens of thousands more passengers when three of the world’s biggest bands perform in Scotland during the same week.

More carriages will be provided for the concerts by Take That, Bon Jovi and Kings of Leon between Wednesday 22 June and Sunday 26 June.

Take That’s ‘Progress’ tour comes to Glasgow’s Hampden Park for three nights – June 22, 23 and 24, while Bon Jovi head east to Murrayfield Stadium for the ‘Open Air’ tour on 22 June – followed by the Kings of Leon show on Sunday 26 June.

ScotRail said it will provide more seats but stressed that trains will be busy from around midday on the days of the concerts.

Jacqueline Dey, operations and safety director said: “Everyone planning to travel by train on concert days should buy their tickets in advance and allow extra time for their journeys.”

“Fans making their way home from the shows are advised to make their way to the station as soon as possible – and to check the departure time of their last train.”

Take That

  • Extra carriages will be provided on trains between Glasgow Central and Mount Florida.
  • Some longer distance services to and from Aberdeen and Inverness will have extra capacity over the concert dates.
  • Concert goers are advised to purchase tickets through to Mount Florida.
  • Fans travelling from Edinburgh to Glasgow should be aware that on Wednesday 22 June trains will be particularly busy – as will Haymarket Station – because the Bon Jovi concert is on at Murrayfield.
  • Queuing systems will be in place at Glasgow Central before the concerts – and at Mount Florida after each show. Only the Bolton Street entrance to Mount Florida Station will be open following each concert.

Bon Jovi & Kings of Leon

  • Bon Jovi fans travelling from Glasgow to Edinburgh should be aware that trains on Wednesday 22 will be especially busy – as will Haymarket Station – because the Take That concert is on the same day.
  • Queuing systems will be in place at Haymarket Station before and after the shows.
  • The front door to Haymarket Station will be closed after the shows, and fans going home should enter via the station car park at Haymarket Terrace.

Regular customers travelling from Glasgow Central and Haymarket at peak time on midweek concert days – as well as those travelling on Sunday 26 June – should be aware that it may take longer to complete their journeys.

Extra ScotRail staff and British Transport Police will be on hand to assist passengers.
