Light Rail

The tram, which was manufactured in La Rochelle, France, arrived at the port of Keelung on 2 September and was then delivered to Kaohsiung.

They will enter commercial use in 2020, when they will replace the complete fleet of 1978-built Be4/12 railcars.

This network will open in two phases. The first 13.9km, and its 20 stations, is scheduled to open on December 25.

An opening ceremony has been held at a new depot and control centre for the CBD and South East Light Rail route in Sydney.

A supplier is expected to be awarded the contract in around May 2019 with a two year design and development process to follow.

New light rail systems are part of the country's wider infrastructure development programme that has been accelerated since 2014, when Indonesia stepped in to replace original hosts Vietnam who withdrew for economic reasons.
