Even more extra late night destinations are being introduced by ScotRail for this year’s Edinburgh festivals.

The enhancements include services to Glasgow, Fife, Perth and North Berwick.

Glasgow will see additional trains to Glasgow Queen Street calling at Linlithgow, Polmont, Falkirk High, Croy & Bishopbriggs – so even more people in the central belt have extra time to soak up the festival atmosphere.

There will be additional ‘night’ festival trains departing Edinburgh everyday at 00.01 from August 6 to 29 as well as an additional 00.30 on Saturday & Sunday mornings August 7 to 29.

In addition, Sunday morning services from Glasgow Queen St will increase to half-hourly.

Festival fans from the west of Scotland will also be able to take advantage of an extra Friday and Saturday ‘night’ train from Edinburgh to Garscadden – departing at 00.05. This service is subject to Network Rail confirming a path for the train.

Fife’s late night Friday service to Inverkeithing will be extended as far as Kirkcaldy, departing Edinburgh at 23.52 on Fridays August 12 to 26.

Perth festival goers will also benefit, with the 23.19 Edinburgh-Glenrothes with Thornton service extended to Perth six days a week (Monday-Saturday) from Saturday 5 August –Thursday 1 September.

The additional weekend late night train to North Berwick introduced for last year’s festivals proved popular and will again run this year.

They will depart Edinburgh Waverley at 23.50 on Friday nights from August 12 to 26 and at 23:52 on Saturday nights from August 6 to 27.

The trains will call at Musselburgh Wallyford, Prestonpans, Longniddry and Drem, there will also be onward bus connections from Drem to Dunbar with regard to these extra trains.

Customers travelling to and from the festivals will also benefit from more carriages on many existing services.

Steve Montgomery, ScotRail’s managing director, said:

“We are delighted to offer more trains and extra carriages for the 2011 Festivals.”
