SW Global Resourcing seeks to plug the Australian skills gap

Listen to this article

One of the UK’s leading providers of manpower services to the railway, engineering and construction industries, SW Global Resourcing (SWGR) has hit the Australian market and seeks to win a slice of a multi-billion dollar infrastructure investment programme.

The company, which is headquartered in Glasgow and has offices in Derby, Carlisle and Kent, has opened an office in Sydney and will partner with an existing Australian recruitment company to meet growing requirements for skilled trades people and professionals.

The Australian entity will be known as GPP (Global People Power).

The Australian government is expected to invest heavily in its roads, railways and mining industries in the coming years as the country spends its way out of recession. Healthcare is also booming, with new hospitals planned to be built across the country.

However, Australia is suffering from a shortage of skilled workers and SWGR plans to plug the gap and provide skilled Brits keen for a change of life Down Under.

SWGR will use its new base in Australia to build relationships with major contractors working across the country.

Established in 1988, SWGR has been tracking the Antipodean job market for 5 years and is hoping to attract skilled electricians, joiners and plumbers as well as construction professionals keen for new challenges in a warmer climate.

The company hopes its expansion plans will see its turnover rise significantly, and is looking to increase its profitability over the next 12 months.

SWGR’s Managing Director Terry Flynn, said:

“We’ve recently opened our Sydney office which should be fully operational by the end of the summer.

“We’ve done our research and Scotland/Britain boasts some of the most highly skilled workers in the world.

“These skills are in great demand in Australia and we’re intent on providing Brits with the opportunity to live and work in one of the first countries to bounce back from the global economic downturn.

“SWGR already works with companies in Mid East, Far East and Australasia, however its sheer size means Australia has the potential to position us as a market leader in our field and be one of the key global players in the technical services recruitment sector.”
