Richard Tracey AM has today welcomed the scrapping of the need for train passengers to have an Oyster Extension Permit (OEP) when travelling to the outskirts of the capital from May 2011.

The move by Boris Johnson means that the journeys of millions of Londoners travelling to the edges of London which are outside the Travelcard zones, will be made easier because they will no longer be required to possess an OEP.

Commenting, London Assembly Member for Merton and Wandsworth, Mr Tracey said:

“The agreement the Mayor has secured with train companies is a great success because it will make daily travel easier for millions of Londoners.

“From May, people heading to edges of London using Oyster cards won’t need the nuisance of getting an Oyster Extension Permit from a ticket office or machine.”

“These permits were confusing, so it a good that they not going to be necessary and that travelling in London will be even easier.”

The Mayor’s announcement came after he met with train operating companies at a summit in City Hall today.
