Bern transport operator RBS has invited bids to supply replacement trains for its S-Bahn line connecting the city with the Worb municipality.

The operator plans to procure 14 four-car EMUs for S7 – the busiest line on the network, carrying an average of 24,000 passengers on weekdays.

RBS has released the vehicle specification for which passengers were given the chance to submit their suggestions.

The winning manufacturer is expected to be announced next year and the first train should arrive by the end of 2018.

The new vehicles will replace the Mandarinli trains, which first entered passenger service more than 40 years ago.
