Strukton Rail have signed a five-year deal to maintain the Nieuwegein-IJsselstein light rail line in the Dutch city of Utrecht.

The contract, which includes an option to extend the five-year period, was signed by Strukton director Ton van Helmondt and Regio Utrecht general manager Piet van Elteren on July 26.

Regio Utrecht has said that the agreement will require Strukton to identify future upgrade possibilities as well as providing operational maintenance of the line.

Strukton Rail will gradually take over responsibility of the line from September, completing the transition by December.
