TfL launches flower campaign to raise awareness

Listen to this article

Transport for London is hoping a new campaign, featuring flowers painted on the ground at 15 spots around Croydon where trams share the streets with cars and pedestrians, will help make people more aware of their surroundings and avoid them colliding with trams.

The message accompanying the flowers is ‘Don’t be remembered like this – watch out for trams’.

Other measures to improve the safety and comfort of the 71,000 passengers that use the system every day include the deployment of six Tramlink neighbourhood officers, improving ‘sightlines’ for tram drivers and pedestrians and road markings showing the sweep path of trams.

Accidents involving trams are relatively rare and have remained constant, despite the number of tram services increasing.

Spring 2012 will see the first of 6 additional trams enter service, with all 6 in service by the summer.
