Footbridge lowered into place over Chorley railway crossing

Listen to this article

A pedestrian footbridge which passes over a stretch of Chorley railway where there have been several near misses with pedestrians using a foot crossing has been lowered into place by national infrastructure specialists Barhale Construction.

Barhale operatives installed the footbridge at Rylands Crossing in a four-hour operation in the early hours of Sunday 9th October.

It is expected the footbridge, which will enable pedestrians using a short cut between Brock Road and Bengal Street to cross the tracks safely, will open to the public later this week.

The crossing has also been the scene of two fatalities in recent years and had been closed off to the public earlier this year.

Barhale had been contracted by Network Rail, the authority responsible for the UK’s railway network.
