Network Rail has announced that C Spencer Ltd will construct the new, £11m Dalmarnock Station in Glasgow.

The station is being redeveloped in time for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, when it will be a key transport hub for those travelling to and from many of the Games’ events.

The contract awarded to C Spencer includes the delivery of:

  • A new, fully DDA-compliant station building (relocated to Dalmarnock Road from Swanston Street)
  • Lift access to both platforms
  • A new pedestrian footbridge
  • New platform surfaces
  • New wall cladding on each platform
  • New customer information and communication systems

Work on site is already underway, with C Spencer having previously won an advance works contract to prepare the station for refurbishment. Network Rail expects to complete the project by Autumn 2013.

Network Rail is delivering the project on behalf of Transport Scotland and the funding partners – SPT, Clyde Gateway, Glasgow City Council and the European Regional Development Fund.

David Simpson, Network Rail route managing director for Scotland, said:

“C Spencer has a track-record of successful delivery on Network Rail projects and we look forward to working with the company to complete this new facility.

“We are confident that we can deliver the new station on-time and within budget and that it will provide visitors with a first-class welcome to the local area, during the Commonwealth Games and beyond.”

Minister for Housing and Transport, Keith Brown added:

“The new-look station and transport hub will not only play a vital role during the 2014 Commonwealth Games, but will also a key part of the regeneration of the east end of Glasgow long after.

“We are delighted to be working with partners to improve transport infrastructure in Scotland’s largest city, and cutting edge transport facilities like the new Dalmarnock station will act as a catalyst for wider economic regeneration through new businesses, commercial developments, offices and housing, and play a central role in supporting sustainable economic growth.”
