Listen to this article

Following an explosion at Minsk Metro’s Oktyabrskaya station, it has been confirmed that 12 people died in the blast and over 200 were injured.

Of those 200, it is thought that 20 are in a critical condition and several people lost limbs.

According to Minsk police, a bomb was planted underneath a bench in the station and set off by remote control.

It was ‘packed with nails, bolts and ball bearings.’

The bomb was set off during Monday evening’s rush hour at the Metro’s only transfer station, where the intersection of the two lines is based.

One line was reopened yesterday and the other is expected to be opened today.

Two people have been detained by police in connection with the blast and a ‘sketch’ of another suspect has been released.

Today has been named an official day of mourning for the nation.
