Listen to this article

A refurbished ScotRail train entered service today – the first of 16 to receive the makeover over the next few months.

All will make their appearance on ScotRail’s Glasgow Central – Cathcart Circle and Glasgow Central – Neilston, Newton and Gourock/Wemyss Bay services.

ScotRail’s £800,000 package of enhancements also includes new lino and a complete ‘refresh’ of the carriage interiors. All will be repainted inside, including gangways, and be fitted with new lighting.

The makeover increases the level of comfort in carriages, with new seat covers and cushions among the enhancements.

Five of the trains will be rebranded in the new ‘ScotRail, Scotland’s Railway’ unified livery during maintenance schedules which coincide with their arrival at the Railcare depot in Springburn, Glasgow for refurbishment.

The improvement programme is scheduled to be completed in October.

Steve Montgomery, ScotRail’s Managing Director, said:

“This investment will mean our customers can travel in greater comfort and well as improve the reliability of our trains.”
