New cycle hub for Manchester Oxford Road station

A new secure and dry space for cyclists to leave their bikes is now open at a busy Northern station.

The ‘cycle hub’ at Manchester Oxford Road has spaces for 18 bicycles as well as a maintenance stand complete with tools and a tire pump.

Located directly outside the main station entrance, the facility has a two-tier gas-assisted racking system which helps with any heavy lifting and there are two spaces for non-standard size bikes.

A bench has been installed for cyclists to change their shoes and a mirror to combat the inevitable ‘helmet hair’.

To ensure maximum security there are CCTV cameras and a door entry system that uses a secure Bluetooth app.

Chris Jackson, regional director at Northern said: “We’re pleased to announce the opening of the new cycle hub, we feel that the opportunity for cyclists to safely park their bikes in the facility will help reduce car traffic on the roads and encourage people to cycle to our stations.”
