Leeds City station visitors and photography lovers can view an exhibition of stunning British landscape photography as part of a nationwide tour.

Winning and commended images from the 2023 Landscape Photographer of the Year Award can be seen free-of-charge at Leeds City station until 23 March, and then at other Network Rail station locations across Britain through to the spring.

The touring exhibition includes all the commended images in the My Railway Adventure award category, which is sponsored by Network Rail and celebrates the many ways in which the railway forms some of the most impressive views of the British landscape.

The Landscape Photographer of the Year competition – founded by renowned photographer, Charlie Waite in 2007 – offers both amateur and professional photographers the opportunity to celebrate Britain’s most beautiful rural and urban scenery.

The competition is open to everyone, with entrants able to enter photographs across several categories.

Passengers have already had the chance to view the exhibition at stations across the country including at Liverpool Lime Street, Manchester Piccadilly, Glasgow Central and Edinburgh Waveley.

Alexander Swyer from West Sussex, winner of the My Railway Adventure award category with his image Looking, said: “I shot this scene on a steam train while on holiday in Devon. Two ladies were sat opposite with their dogs, and I loved the way all four were looking through the window at the countryside.

“I had my camera on the table and quickly took a couple of photos. I sent a copy of this picture to the ladies as well as entering it for the competition, and I’m delighted it has been received by both parties so positively.”

Julie Swift, Network Rail’s station interface manager at Leeds City station said: “This is a fantastic competition and I am thrilled the exhibition is on show at Leeds station for everyone to see.

“The images not only capture the beauty of railway travel but the impact that the railway has on the British landscape.

“If you are a photographer lover, passenger or just passing through the station, come and visit the incredible exhibition on the station’s northern concourse until the end of the month.”
