Union Pacific is to spend $68 million on Iowa’s railway infrastructure.
The rail operator will devote $55 million to track maintenance and $10 million to bridge maintenance.
Key projects include spending $5 million on the rail line between Garden City and Bradford to replace 25 miles of rail and $10 million investment to replace the bridge over Abbe Creek in Bertram.
It is the latest in a series of investment announcements from Union Pacific, who have targeted key projects to boost safety and minimise delays across its network.
From 2012 to 2016, Union Pacific said that it invested more than $330 million strengthening Iowa’s transportation infrastructure.
The Union Pacific Railroad connects 23 states. From 2007-2016, Union Pacific invested approximately $34 billion across its railway network.
