As the railway industry celebrates Rail Safety Week (26 June – 2 July), Hull Trains is being heralded as a shining example after being shortlisted at this year’s National Rail Awards for its safety achievements.
Rail Safety Week aims to bring rail safety to the forefront of people’s minds across a dedicated week; keeping safety firmly in the spotlight through sharing ideas and best practice across the industry.
Hull Trains has taken significant steps to improving safety for both staff and customers on board. A number of iniatives have been rolled out across the company in the past 12 months to improve safety.
As a result, in the recent (ORR) safety report, a level 5 ‘excellent’ evaluation was given to the way that Hull Trains’ safety team works with frontline teams, and health and safety representatives, to achieve collaborative solutions to safety issues through partnership working.
‘Dedicated to safety’ is one of Hull Trains core values and is the linchpin that defines their culture and drive towards zero harm.
Martijn Gilbert, managing director of Hull Trains, said: “The safety of both our customers and colleagues on board our trains are paramount to the whole team here at Hull Trains. It is an ongoing project to maintain and improve on our current levels and is something we all remain committed to.
“We are delighted that our efforts have been recognised nationally which we are pleased to share with customers and the wider industry as part of Rail Safety Week.”
