Metrolinx has launched a search for an experienced operator as it prepares to quadruple the number of train services it runs each week.

Issuing a Request for Qualification (RFQ), the Government of Ontario agency said it “now requires new specific skills, knowledge and experience” as it implements an ambitious project to improve the GO Transit public transport system.

A spokesperson for Metrolinx added: “Once in place, the operator will help make our system better for commuters by finding ways to further reduce commute times, while also ensuring we are properly building critical infrastructure that will enable GO [regional express rail].

“While the Operator is expected to eventually take over rail operations, our existing operations and maintenance contract with Bombardier will remain in place until the end of the contract in 2023.”
