Rail Forum Midlands (RFM) is delighted to announce the appointment of Simon Higgens MBE to the role of Vice-Chair of the Board.

Simon was invited to take up the new role in recognition of his pro-activity and drive to help other members. His role will support the current Chair and existing Vice-Chair.

Simon is the Business Development Director at Story Contracting Ltd, a civil engineering company that operates in the rail and construction sectors.  Having cut his teeth in the rail industry at Babcock, he was previously CEO of Derby-based ISS Labour and Market Engagement Director at Amey Consulting & Rail. Prior to joining the rail industry, Simon served in the Royal Engineers for 30 years and deployed worldwide on numerous operations. Drawing on his military and rail experience, Simon brings his strategic and leadership skills to the Board along with a passion for lifelong learning and addressing the industry’s skills gap.

Speaking on his appointment Simon said “I am delighted and privileged to become a Vice-Chair of the Rail Forum.  I have been associated with the organisation as both a member and on the Board for 8 years and have witnessed the significant growth in its membership and influence within the rail industry.  Drawing on my experience in the rail infrastructure sector, I very much look forward to working with members, stakeholders and the Board and playing my part in the continued success of the Rail Forum.

Paul Robinson, Chair of RFM said “I’m delighted that Simon has accepted the role of Vice-Chair. He brings a wealth of knowledge and a real passion for the industry. His involvement and support since his election to the Board have been exemplary and it is fitting this is now recognised; I’m sure you will join me in congratulating Simon on his appointment.
