Network Rail has completed essential work to strengthen the embankment next to Sherburn in Elmet station, which means reliable services can continue connecting passengers to York, Hull and Sheffield for years to come.
Work began on the £413,000 project in January as the land behind platform 2 had become unstable over time. Teams removed some of the plants and hedges on the embankment and installed stone to strengthen the area. Improvements were also made to sections of the platform floor.
Carrying out this work overnight allowed the station to stay open as normal so train services could continue for passengers making essential journeys. People should continue to follow the latest Government guidance and minimise travel where possible.
Matt Rice, Route Director for Network Rail’s North and East route, said: “We’ve taken action to strengthen the land next to Sherburn in Elmet station now to protect the platform and prevent disruption for passengers in future.
“These vital improvements mean passengers can continue to connect to other villages, towns and cities on the line for future generations.
“We carefully planned this work and completed it overnight so trains could continue running. We want to thank people who live near the railway for their patience.”
