Leeds station is supporting the Royal British Legion’s City Poppy Day today (Tuesday 1 November) by hosting a team of volunteer fundraisers, as well as a live performance from the British Army Band Catterick.
Volunteers from the Royal British Legion will be collecting donations from passengers to raise money and pay tribute to those who have served and sacrificed their lives.
Passengers and visitors to the station can also enjoy live performances throughout the day from the British Army Band Catterick on the south concourse, whilst the station’s iconic dark arches will be lit red to show support to the Armed Forces Community.
The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal launched on Thursday 27 October, with collectors distributing poppies across the UK. City Poppy Days – involving uniformed personnel from the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, veterans and supporters – are taking place in cities up and down the country including London, Cardiff, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham and Leeds.
The rail industry is coming together to give further support by allowing free travel for volunteers and collectors to participate in City Poppy Days across Great Britain, including the Leeds City Poppy Day*.

It is such an important cause, and we hope that passengers join us to watch the live performance as we remember those who lost their lives when serving our country.”
