Ansaldo wins Honolulu Transit contract

The consortium, consisting of Ansaldo STS and Ansaldo Breda – Finmeccanica companies – won a contract valued at $574 million for the construction of the Honolulu High-Capacity Tranist Corridor Project.

The Ansaldo Honolulu JV joint venture, has been selected by the City and County of Honolulu, Hawaii as Core System Contractor of the project.

The Core Systems Design-Build contract  is expected to amount $574 million. The Ansaldo STS portion of the contract will be $367 million; the Ansaldo Breda portion of the contract will be $207 million.

The project to construct an elevated rapid transit line serving the City and County of Honolulu on the island of Oahu.

The controversy over the rail line was the dominant issue for local politics leading into the 2008 Honolulu elections, and culminated in a city charter amendment which left the final decision to the citizens of Oahu.
