Alstom to develop automatic train control for Paris RER

Listen to this article

Alstom has been awarded a €20 million contract to develop automatic train control (ATO) for Line A of the Paris RER regional network.

Driverless operation will be rolled out across a fleet of 173 trains currently operating on Line A.

The system will be integrated into the existing SACEM automatic train protection system, which has been in use since 1989.

Alstom has said the new system should be able to reduce journey times through the core section, between Vincennes and La Défense, by approximately two minutes.

RATP, STIF and the Ile-de-France region have appointed Alstom to develop, install and test the new system by 2018.
