Listen to this article

Bombardier has been awarded two new contracts for light rail vehicles from the Dusseldorf (Rheinbahn AG) and Cologne transport authorities (KVB).

The German manufacturer will build 20 new Flexity units for KVB and 42 for Rheinbahn AG, orders worth €64 million and €127 million respectively.

The Flexity vehicles, which will be delivered between 2017 and 2021, will replace the region’s current fleet of Stadtbahnwagen Bs.

Jorn Schwarze, chief technology officer at KVB, said: “The contract has been awarded based on the most economical offer. Particularly worth mentioning are the low lifecycle costs and easy maintainability.

“We are convinced to have chosen the most cost efficient and cost effective solution.”
