Warsaw opens second metro line

Listen to this article

Warsaw’s metro operator, ZTM, has inaugurated the city’s second metro line, M2.

ZTM operated services free of charge on March 8 as the very first trains travelled along the new underground east-west line beneath the Vistula River.

The 6.7-kilometre core section is served by seven new stations and a 400-metre tunnel connecting the new and old lines.

The first train was flagged off from Holy Cross station in the direction of Vilnius.

Siemens received an order in 2011 for 35 six-car Inspiro units – 20 of which will go into service on M2.
