CAF-led consortium to build new railway in Mexico

Listen to this article

A CAF-led consortium has been awarded the contract to build a new suburban rail line between Mexico City and Toluca.

The consortium, which also includes Construcciones Urales, Isolux Ingeniería and Thales, will construct the new 57.7-kilometre link between the Mexican capital and the capital of the State of México, Toluca.

Thales will install ETCS Level 2 signalling technology and telecommunications systems including GSM-R on the line – a project the company believes is the first implementation of the ETCS Level 2 signalling solution in the American continent.

Project management is being provided by SGS, which has its headquarters in Switzerland.

In all, the new line will feature four new stations, two 4.6-km tunnels and two viaducts of more than 40 km.
