RMT appoints Bob Crow’s successor

Listen to this article

The Rail, Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) has announced that Mick Cash has been voted in as the union’s new general secretary.

Cash, 54, had been the RMT’s deputy general secretary for 12 years before taking over the general secretary position on an interim basis following the death of Bob Crow in March.

Cash said he was “proud and honoured” to have received the backing of union members.

“Let me make this clear. There will be no deviation from the industrial, political and organising strategy mapped out by RMT under Bob’s leadership,” said Cash.

“Our fight on pay, jobs, working conditions, pensions and safety continues on every front and in every industry where we organise members.”
