Listen to this article

Work is underway to modify a depot at Willesden Junction to accommodate London Overground’s new five-car trains.

As well as the depot remodelling, additional sidings are being created at Wembley for the longer trains, which are being introduced as part of a £320 million project to increase capacity on the network.

Upgrades are being carried out around the Overground network, extending platforms and upgrading depots, to deliver a 25 per cent capacity increase.

New five-car Overground trains are being introduced on the East London route between Highbury & Islington to New Cross, Crystal Palace, West Croydon and the South London route from Highbury & Islington to Clapham Junction from the end of 2014.

Cleshar Contract Services Ltd began platform lengthening works on the first of 13 Overground station towards the end of last year.
