Listen to this article

Five consortia have been shortlisted to compete for the main infrastructure works contract for the €368 million Luas Cross City line in Dublin.

Preparatory works are already underway on the 6-kilometre line which will extend the city’s Luas light rail system.

Joint ventures of BAM Dragados, Ferrovial Farrans, OHL JPC, Sisk Steconfer and Somague Wills have all reached the next phase of the competition and will be allowed to submit a formal bid for the works once the invitation to tender is published later this quarter.

The main contract is expected to then be appointed before the end of the year and begin work in 2015.

Passenger services are expected to commence in 2017.

Efacec has already been appointed to design and install energy, signalling and security systems, information systems and all of the equipment for the line’s new central command center as part of the €25 million contract.
