São Paulo Orange Line tender to be re-issued

Listen to this article

The government in São Paulo is preparing to re-issue a tender for the construction and operation of the planned Orange Line.

Details will be published on Friday, September 13, for the new Line 6 tender after the original competition was cancelled earlier in the year.

The BRL $7.8 billion is to be funded through a PPP model, however the first tender, which was published in February, was cancelled after companies were reported to be concerned about the cost of buying up homes and commercial properties affected by the construction works – a cost the government has now agreed to absorb.

The Orange Line will link Brasilândia in the north of São Paulo with São Joaquim station in the city’s Liberdade district.

Nicknamed ‘the university line’, Line 6 will serve students at Mackenzie Presbyterian University, FMU and FAAP.

In addition to construction works and the purchase of new trains, the tender also includes the operation and maintenance of the line for 19 years.
