DB orders double-deck EMUs from Bombardier

Deutsche Bahn (DB) is to buy an additional 18 double-deck EMUs from manufacturer Bombardier  – taking the total number of carriages bought under a 2008 framework agreement to 392.

The new trains, which will cost around 216 million euro, will carry passengers on regional lines serving Nuremberg, Augsburg and Munich when they come intro operation in December 2016.

Dr Rudiger Grube, chairman of DB, said: “Our consistent investments in new rail vehicles clearly show that we are strengthening our company for the future requirements of the transport markets.”

The TWINDEXX Vario units will be built in four and six-car formations.
