CTA to carry out Blue Line upgrade feasability study

Listen to this article

Chicago’s public transport authority are to conduct a feasibility study into the modernisation of the city’s Blue Line.

The study will focus on the line’s Forest Park Branch which celebrates its 55th birthday this year.

CTA has said the line has a “growing list” of outstanding repairs and research is needed to work out the best way of approaching the modernisation.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said: “The Blue Line is a critical piece of Chicago’s transit infrastructure, helping tens of thousands of Chicagoans get to work and school on a daily basis.

“The Blue Line will play a large role in the future development of the West Side of Chicago and I am pleased that we continue to look for efficiencies and new opportunities to improve service.”

The Cermak-Chinatown section of Chicago’s Red Line is currently closed to allow track replacement work to take place as part of a major $425 million rebuild.
