Man drives into Paris metro station

Listen to this article

A man has driven down the steps of a Paris metro station after believing it was the entrance to an underground car park.

“There’s a sign saying ‘Haussmann Parking’ right in front… I made a mistake,” the driver – a man named Johan, told the AFP.

No-one was hurt in the incident and the 26-year-old braked in time to stop his car travelling further down into the Chaussee d’Antin-La Fayette metro station.

The driver reportedly passed an alcohol test and his car wasn’t damaged.

An employee of a nearby restaurant said a similar incident took place at the site four or five years ago.
