The first berth of the $1.5 billion London Gateway Port development is set to open in 2013.

Located on the River Thames, Essex, UK, phase 1 of London Gateway Port comprises three new fully equipped deep-water berths and marine civil infrastructure for a further three berths.

The development also includes the construction of Europe’s largest logistics park adjacent to the port.

London Gateway will provide an initial capacity of 1.6 million TEU (twenty foot equivalent container units). At full capacity London Gateway will provide a 3.5m TEU terminal.

Mott MacDonald has been further commissioned to continue its technical advisor role to the lenders by providing project monitoring during the construction and operational phases.

Construction of essential infrastructure for the port started in 2008 and ‘continues a pace’ for the opening of the first berth in Q4 of 2013.
