Queensland Rail offers stranded Qantas passengers helping hand

Queensland Rail Travel will offer specially discounted fares this week to Qantas passengers stranded by the airline’s grounding.

Qantas passengers with existing tickets will receive 25% off economy Sunlander rail fares between Brisbane and Cairns, and 20% off business class seats on the Tilt Train.

The discounts follow Queensland Rail Travel’s decision on Saturday to add additional services and capacity along the Queensland coast, to provide more alternate transport for customers put out by the sudden airline shutdown.

The discounts will apply to all services including the additional coastal services.

Max Kruse, General Manager Queensland Rail Travel, said the company was aiming to do its part to help out during these extraordinary times.

“We know from our customers and from our partners in the travel industry this rapid grounding has caused significant disruption to families, to holiday makers and to business commuters,” Mr Kruse said.

“In other times of crisis, including floods and other natural disasters, we have put all of our resources in to help the people of Queensland and visitors to our state.

“This is also a crisis, and once again we will do what we can to help out those in need.

“Our extra services will provide seats for hundreds of customers and we are receiving a lot of interest from people who need to get home or away for business or holidays.

“These trains are in addition to our existing services, which includes three return Brisbane-Cairns Tilt Train services and three return Brisbane-Cairns Sunlander services operating this week.

“We have arranged extra customer service staff on standby to take calls from people wanting to book on our trains.”
